The South African Zulu are well-known throughout the world for both for their intricate and colorful bead work and expert weaving of baskets and textiles.

Ilala Weavers, a Fair Trade project of ethnic inspirations serves to supplement the income of the Zulu people of Hluhluwe in the province of KwaZulu Natal so they may work at home while continuing to tend to their family and customary duties.

Established over thirty years ago Ilala Weavers maintains its original objective of keeping the age-old Zulu tradition of handicrafts alive. The organization works with thousands of Zulu men and women teaching them the rich heritage of basket weaving and beadwork that has been passed down through generations.
