since the inception of Organic Bug in 2006. Helping to drive
environmental change and promote further action on the part of our
customers is the foundation of Organic Bug so pledging 1% of annual
sales through this organization seems the natural way to keep the
momentum going! Alliance for International Reforestation (AIR)
continues to be on Organic Bug's list of non-profit organizations that
we support as a result of our annual pledge to 1% for the Planet. AIR
plants trees, establishes tree nurseries, provides environmental
education, digs wells, builds fuel-efficient brick ovens and helps
educate folks about the environmental challenges facing Central America. Healthy Child Healthy World
is another non-profit organization that Organic Bug supports through our 1% for the Planet initiative. Healthy Child
works to empower parents to protect children from harmful chemicals
through the promotion of companies with safe practices, the promotion of
a safer public policy and improve preventative healthcare for children.
Since 2006 the Organic Trade Association (OTA)
has been an effective way for Organic Bug to stay abreast of the wide
range of critical issues facing the organic industry in North America.
OTA provides businesses with essential information concerning policies
and regulations, public opinion and marketplace trends, As a Green America
member Organic Bug earned Green America's Business Seal of Approval in
2007, which means you can feel confident that we are as socially and
environmentally responsible as we say we are! Organic Bug has chosen Dharma Merchant Services as our merchant provider that enables us to accept credit cards on our website. Dharma's mission to provide excellent service while showing compassion for our environment, our communities, our customers and ourselves is a statement that resonates with the Organic Bug philosophy and mission. Dharma donates 10% of its annual profits from our credit card processing revenue to the charity of our choice. We chose the Rainforest Action Network, founded in 1985 to protect rainforests, their inhabitants and the natural systems that sustain life by transforming the global marketplace through education, grassroots organizing and non-violent direct action.
Organic Bug has partnered with TerraPass
since 2009 to balance our carbon emissions by purchasing carbon
offsets. Our purchases support farm power projects that make the best
possible use of animal waste, landfill + abandoned coal mine methane gas
capture projects that capture methane and destroy or purify and reuse
it to keep it out of the atmosphere, and clean energy funding for wind
farms to lower the proportion of electricity derived from dirty power
sources. Blogs Organic Bug has been blogging about newsworthy environmental issues since 2009.
