Ingredients include water, water-miscible acrylic resins and thickeners, glycol ethers; may contain mica, D&C red lake, ultramarine blue, iron and titanium oxide pigments. The resins are polyacrylic and polyurethane latexes with residual monomers well below 100 parts per million. The acrylic and polyurethane resins are present in the polish in the form of latexes~emulsions in water~very similar in form and function to milk.
The term resin is generic and refers to any polymer which can form a film as it dries. Proteins, cellulose, sugars and DNA are a few natural polymers or resins, none of which are any more or less harmful than the resins used in our polishes. The only co-solvent is diglycol ether. All colorants are FDA-approved for cosmetic use. Sourced and manufactured in the USA.
For best results, please refer to these simple application guidelines:
- If thinning is needed, you may add 1 or 2 drops of water
- Shake polish well
- Make sure little hands & feet are clean and dry
- Apply 2-3 thin coats of Piggy Paint
- Allow to air dry for about a minute (aka sing the ABC’s together twice)
- Blow dry polished nails for about a minute with hair dryer set on warm heat/low blower setting (for safety purposes, please follow manufacturer’s instructions when using electrical appliances~we advise against young children handling any electrical appliances).
The hair dryer is not totally necessary. But because our nail polishes are water-based and do not contain harsh chemicals, it takes a bit longer for them to reach their ultimate hardness. Blow drying simply speeds up this process.
One last thing! Don’t pass up the opportunity to use Piggy Paint as a LEARNING TOOL!
Color Names Working on colors? Paint her nails a specific color (say red for example) and declare it a RED DAY. Dress her in red, make sure you include red foods at mealtimes and all day long encourage her to notice things that match her nails. Once she has mastered one color, paint her piggies a new color and begin again!
Fine Motor Skills Let your child paint YOUR fingernails and toenails! Aside from practice with fine motor skills kids feel a great since of accomplishment and independence.
Patterns Recognizing pattern types can be a difficult concept for children to learn so why not put patterns right at her fingertips? One idea is to alternate blue and yellow Piggy Paint on her fingernails. Then throughout the day help her make the same alternating pattern with toys of two colors or M&M’s or crayons or beads, always referring back to her fingernails for help. When it’s time to make it a bit more challenging, move to three colors or alternate something like pink, purple, purple, pink and so on.
